Can you briefly introduce yourself and tell us what you mainly have to do at Affilizz?

I am a senior executive from the international media industry with a 20-year record of directing global brands and businesses. I have led international operations for globally renowned companies such as Future plc., Dennis, and Hearst Magazines.

For the past few years, I have been working for SaaS technology companies, helping tier-1 content media businesses diversify their revenue streams and maximise the opportunities offered through licensing intellectual property and affiliate eCommerce.

My role at Affilizz is pretty simple; it’s convincing our publisher and advertiser partners that the most effective and efficient way for them to make money from affiliate marketing is to use the Affilizz platform!


What’s the story and the business value behind Affilizz?

The team has a strong French media background who a few years ago saw the huge opportunity of affiliate marketing but had no idea how to do it well.  We soon realised that there’s more to building a successful program than putting a link on a page!  It was a steep learning curve!

It’s a dynamic, fast-moving industry and we found it is crucial to ensure that when we sent our audience to make a purchase, we sent them to places where the information was correct.

So, we quickly learnt that out-of-stock links need to be removed and prices need to be constantly updated – up to 40% of affiliate revenues can come from content over 60-days old – and this needs to be done automatically and in real time.

Our initial CTR’s were terrible then we realised that consumers want choice – we now know that 90% of consumers will seek to compare prices before making a purchase so we needed to develop a system that served up multiple merchants which meant we needed to work with as many advertisers as possible.

We soon found that instead of making brilliant content that generated demand we were searching for products or services then wasting time waiting for our dev teams to create ‘Buy’ buttons which were easy on the eye. So needed a simple frontend UX for Editors to sit on top of the sophisticated back end.

And underlining all of this we began to understand that affiliate is a data rich, information poor industry so we needed to create a platform with outstanding reporting.

Affiliz is all the above. It’s a platform that works with advertisers so that publishers can make the affiliate opportunity real.

This is what we learned in France and now we want to replicate it across the rest of the world.


Do advertisers need anything specific to work with you?

No! We’re really keen to work with as many advertisers as possible so that we can add their products and services to the 100 million+ offers we already store in our database.  This way, when our media partners look to offer their customers affiliate purchasing opportunities, Tradedoubler advertisers will be featured.

What are the advantages when an advertiser enters a partnership with Affilizz?

We particularly work with tier-1 content media businesses who focus on developing large scale quality audiences – this is a business that thrives on scale, so we want a high volume and high value audience.

We then provide the technology which removes the critically important but really laborious back-office tasks so that they can concentrate their resources that creates quality content which drives demand and generates consumers with strong purchase intent.

Any exciting plans coming up this year?

Sure! As well as rolling out globally we have plenty of new & exciting developments being launched on the platform. Highlights include:

· Price reduction alerts, so that when an advertiser reduces the price of a product our publishers will receive an automatic alert so that they can push content covering the product.

· Automatic detection of the topic covered in an article so that we can push relevant products. This is going to be particularly useful for back catalogues and allow publishers to build scale immediately.

· Linking products so that when an update is launched, we propose alternative or the newer product which will help keep content relevant.

We are also continually improving our reporting systems so that we can improve the ROI of brand campaigns for our publishers and advertisers.


What trends do you currently see in affiliate marketing and eCommerce in general?

For a bit of fun, we asked Chat GPT this question and it said it couldn’t provide a current analysis!  It did throw out the usual hot topics; personalization, voice, social, video, GDPR, mobile, sustainability and of course AI – but there was nothing inspirational.

So, I’ll give it a whirl instead.

I think trust is going to become more and more important over the coming months and years. Consumers will want to know they are spreading their hard-earned money with brands, media, and advertisers that they know they can trust.

With my media background hat on, this will mean people seeking information from sources they know are credible. Think of it like this; am I going to invest in a piece of technology recommended by a blogger I’ve never heard of (who could just be using Chat GPT for their review) or am I going to go to a site like TechRadar or Stuff who I know employ journalists who test the equipment who I can trust?
